Castle of Esch-sur-Sûre

The Esch-sur-Sûre Castle is a medieval jewel perched on a steep hill above the village. Built in the 11th century, the castle is a testimony to the feudal architecture of the time. Over the centuries, the castle has been expanded and reinforced, and it has played an important strategic role in many of the wars and conflicts of the region. Today, Esch-sur-Sûre Castle is a major tourist attraction, offering a panoramic view of the Sûre Valley and the surrounding area. Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is a beautiful Gothic building located at the heart of the village. Visitors can admire the rich interior decorations of the church, including wall paintings and finely carved wooden sculptures. The Natural Park House of the Upper Sûre

The Natural Park House of the Upper Sûre is located in the old textile mill of Esch-sur-Sûre. Built in the 18th century, this drapery has been renovated to become a place of discovery and awareness of nature and the environment. Not only does it house the Local Tourist Office but also a shop for the sale of regional products. The museum offers an interactive exhibition on the history and life around the Lake of Esch-sur-Sûre, presenting the importance of water, wildlife and flora for the region. Visitors can discover traditional weaving techniques, as well as the impact of industries on nature and local ecosystems. The House of the Lake also organises events and activities for all ages, such as workshops, guided tours and outings to explore the surrounding area.


St. Croix Chapel (the "Loch" Chapel)

Many legends have been woven around the "Loch" chapel, located outside of Esch-sur-Sûre, in the direction of Eschdorf. This charming stone chapel dates from the 18th century and was built on the site of an old wooden cross from the Middle Ages. The Gothic Calvary, Christ on the cross with two thieves, is a life-size lime-tree sculpture inside the chapel and is a major treasure of Luxembourg's cultural heritage. An avenue of lime trees leading to the access door gives the chapel a special charm. The chapel is an important pilgrimage site for the local community and it is also the starting point for many hikes in the surrounding hills.


The Lake of the Haute-Sûre

The Lake of the Haute-Sûre is an artificial lake located a few kilometers from the village of Esch-sur-Sûre. Created in the 1960s to generate hydroelectric energy and drinking water, it is now a popular recreational area for local residents and visitors to the region.
