St. Croix Chapel (the "Loch" Chapel)

Many legends have been woven around the "Loch" chapel, located outside of Esch-sur-Sûre, in the direction of Eschdorf. This charming stone chapel dates from the 18th century and was built on the site of an old wooden cross from the Middle Ages. The Gothic Calvary, Christ on the cross with two thieves, is a life-size lime-tree sculpture inside the chapel and is a major treasure of Luxembourg's cultural heritage. An avenue of lime trees leading to the access door gives the chapel a special charm.
